When did you start working at Skeem Saam?

I was working at Sasani Studios when I heard that the show was crewing up for a new season. I went to their new offices to enquire and I applied to be a logger on the show. I subsequently received a call from the line producer, calling me for an interview. Following that, I got the job, and I was so excited, on the 16th June 2014.

What does your job entail?

I am a Logger/Translator. My main responsibility is to record all footage. On set/studio we don’t shoot scenes and episodes chronologically, which is why it is important for me to make sure that I record and save all the footage in the correct files. I name the scenes as per call sheet so that the editors know where to find them when they edit. Attention to detail is very important in this job as any kind of carelessness could cost the production a lot of money (reshoots), should the footage be marked incorrectly. I also recently started translating Emkay’s character (from English to Zulu)

What’s it like working on Skeem Saam?

Working at Skeem Saam is sp special in the sense that I get an opportunity to rub shoulders with the legends and icons of the entertainment industry. I get a chance to learn from them because they’re so business-minded. I get a chance to work alongside people who do what I love the most, writing. It was a special feeling for Skeem Saam to win the Safta award for most popular Soapie and I got an opportunity to hold the award and take pictures. It is truly an honour to work with such amazing individuals.

How does one get to do what you’re doing?

There all types of internships in the TV & Film industry. Research is the best way to find out where one can apply for a certain job in the industry, information is readily available on the internet. And while you are employed for one particular job, you always have the opportunity to learn about other jobs, which will surely increase your knowledge. One of the most important things I learnt, is to be respectful to people, because they will look out for you and share knowledge with you. That’s one of the first things I was taught.

If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?

As a child, my dream was to be a famous soccer player.  Now I dream of being a scriptwriter and director. I love telling stories so I would love to write a story and tell it by directing it well. That would be my dream job/s.

If you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

I love sports. I play soccer with the Skeem Saam soccer team whenever we have the opportunity. We usually have games on Fridays, and sometimes have soccer tournaments a where we play against other production companies.

What’s your most memorable storyline on Skeem Saam?

It has to be the Marothi and Rachel (sugardaddy storyline). The swag with which Lesego (Rachel Kunutu) was playing the character was amazing. Both actors were out of this world, and I feel that they deserved a SAFTA for it.
