Mandela Day 67 minutes Celebration
Each year on the celebration of Nelson Mandela's birthday which is on the 18th of July, citizens in all walks of life are encouraged to take at least 67 minutes of their time to make a difference in the world and other people’s lives.
This year, SA FM together with SABC Foundation celebrated the Mandela Day in style with live OB, at one of the SABC’s foundation beneficiaries Gogo Maria “DLOZI” Nkabinde’s house resident in Orlando East, Soweto.
This was also a great opportunity to put a smile to the aged with at least 67 minutes of music celebrations, dancing and words of comfort. It was a day to show 67 minutes of gratitude, with an extraordinary lunch fully prepared and served by the SABC team to the gogos
SABC National on air Promotions & Special Projects Ms. Hazel Tlhabanyane explained the journey which she has had with the gogos by saying “The Elderly supported our initiative which was driven by SAFM,” she explained. “In April we managed to partner with the Entertainment BC Dogan Exhibitions, and the Rand Show at Expo Centre. We hosted these 125 elders from the Orlando East Social clubs to thank them for the role they play into the community by keeping our children safe through their social clubs.”
“This campaign is testimony about the power of collaboration and we were able to implement a sustainable project by involving all stakeholders to provide shared values for the upliftment of our communities,” she concluded.
The Gogos had an opportunity to celebrate, and reflect the Madiba’s legacy on his birthday.
