Pioneer Foods launches education and community trust

Pioneer Foods, one of South Africa’s leading food manufacturers, has established an independent education and community trust as part of its broad based black economic empowerment initiative.

The expanded empowerment scheme came into being when the Group issued some 10, 6 million listed shares to the Pioneer Foods Broad-Based BEE Trust (the PF BEE Trust). As part of the transaction, the Pioneer Foods Education and Community Trust (PFECT), has been formed to serve as the only beneficiary of the PF BEE Trust. The newly established trust is to receive 20% of all dividends declared on these shares.

Court to pass judgement on textbook saga

The North Gauteng High court will pass judgement on the Limpopo textbook saga today. The non-governmental organisation, Section 27 is seeking an order to compel the Basic Education Department to complete the delivery of text books in Limpopo by the end of the month.

Nzimande lashes at academics criticizing SA’s education system

Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande has lambasted academics who criticise the country's education system without proposing solutions to the problems. The comment was seen by some as a veiled reference to Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Free State Professor Jonathan Jansen who has been critical of the government's handling of education.

Machel calls on SA to mend ‘social crises’

The wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela, Graca Machel has called on government to mend the social crises in South African communities. Machel said the country had not begun to understand the deep "social crises, which has been structured, crafted, engineered and systematically implemented” during the apartheid period to oppress the majority of the people.
