Harriet Manamela a strong no nonsense personality in Skeem Saam

#SkeemSaam airs every weeknight on SABC 1 at 18.30pm.

Born in in Diepkloof, Harriet Manamela matriculated from St. Anthony's Centre in Boksburg. She joined Squints Artists Community Theatre Group in Alexandra and performed in The Virus and Let's Talk About Aids at The Market Theatre Laboratory Annual Festival.

With The Market Theatre Laboratory drama school she performed in Broken Dreams, appeared in Theatre Sports for SABC3, toured Sweden with Gommorah, Koze Kuse Bash, Ways of Dying, Bozoli at The Market Theatre and The Grahamstown Arts Festival.

Her television career started in 1998 with Soul City, Isidingo, Yizo Yizo II, Justice For All II & III, Zero Tolerance, Soul Buddyz, Behind The Badge and not forgetting Skeem Saam.

Films that she has starred in include Dr Lucille, Hijack Stories, Country of My Skull and Yesterday. She also played the lead in ‘My Other Mother’.

In 2012 she scooped a SAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film ‘Life Above All’ and was later nominated in the Vita awards for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in a then popular Soapie.

On the show, Meikie is a businesswoman who works for her husband at the Maputla supermarket. She is motherly, loving and highly protective over her children. But beneath the soft exterior is a very strong woman who will take on anything that threatens the wellbeing of her family.

She has a very strong no nonsense personality and is never afraid to say exactly how she feels, sometimes even if at the expense of the next person’s feelings. As a family the Maputla’s might have had their fair share of hardships but still continue to be the envy of most families in Turfloop.

With the big graduation party coming up fast we look forward to another successful event for the books. But will this event be as drama free as we had hoped?
