Africa Day is Trending at the SABC
Radio 2000, Channel Africa and Metro FM have partnered in celebration of Africa Day to give expression to what it truly means to be African in 2019.
Arts and culture have always held the centre of the African continent and this creativity will be lived through an 8 country exhibition and an entertainment by artists from the Continent.Representatives from the African High Commissions include representatives from Botswana, Gabon, Morocco,, Tunisia and special guest country Korea will be in attendance.
Sibongile Mtyali, METRO FM Station Manager and Acting Radio 2000 Station Manager says: “The partnership amongst the three Radio stations is a reflection of SABC’s brand collaboration for maximum impact. The common aim and intention is to celebrate our spirit of Africanism and Ubuntu. The event sees us holding up our mirrors to reflect the tapestry of Africa to South Africans and of South Africa to the rest of the Continent.” The celebration will showcase the unique culture, music and cuisine of our 2019 partner countries.
This year’s celebration seeks to promote the social cohesion project and foster peaceful co-existence amongst fellow Africans in South Africa. Channel Africa partnered with Ditsong Museums of South Africa (DMSA) to host a dialogue on Xenophobia and create awareness about its impact, with the intention to invest in an Africa that is unified and free of hatred.
Radio 2000 and Channel Africa will broadcast live from the SABC activation in Auckland Park on May 24th, between 09h00 and 15h00. SABC 2 will be broadcasting this year’s live edition of the Bassline Africa Day Concert from 8pm to 11pm on 25th May. The line-up at Constitution Hill includes Asa,Mr Eazi, Buhlebendalo, Blinky Bill and Dobet.
SAFM and Chanel Africa will broadcast live from the Africa Shared Value summit that takes place in Kenya, Nairobi between 23 and 24 May in English and Kiswahili respectively.
