SABC Sends Condolences to the Nyaka Family

Johannesburg- Tuesday, 07 May 2019- The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Safako Nyaka.

He joined the SABC at the dawn of democracy in 1995 as a Political correspondentand the Head of Transformation Unit. In these roles, he contributed immensely to the shaping and transformation of the SABC into a public broadcaster.

Mr. Nyaka  also served as an Editor for Television Current Affairs fromJuly 2011 and retired in September 2015.

His journalism background dates as far back as the 70’s and throughout his career, he used his wealth of knowledge to guide and influence young people within the journalism fraternity as, the mentoring of young journalists was a task close to his heart.

SABC employees who were fortunate to work with him, will rememberhim for his passion in journalism and his commitment to the transformation of South Africa. The pivotal role he played in the advancement of journalism and his remarkable work in advocating for the democracy South Africa enjoys today, will never be forgotten.

The SABC would like to send its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Nyaka during this difficult time.
