The NMCH representatives were given a platform to present the project concept to all and also to outline how the SABC can support it to try and raise funds for the building of the exclusive children’s hospital. Since the initial briefing, the SABC responded with interest in partnering and assisting the NMCH with their fund raising project.

The Nelson Mandela Children Hospital project is an ambitious project initiated to build a 200-bed academic and pediatric referral facility in Johannesburg that will serve children across within South Africa and the SADC region. "There are only four children hospitals in Africa and one being in South Africa", said NMCH Media and Communications Officer, Ms. Vuyo Lutseke. She further indicated that the Nelson Mandela Children Hospital Project is seeking to eliminate children mortality as outlined in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's), and to close the gaps in children’s primary health care.

SABC as a public broadcaster will be coming on board to assist in publicizing the project to the general public using radio, television, mobile, online and outreach campaigns. “For the reason of its footprint, national reach and its presence in Africa through Channel Africa, the SABC is seen as the great platform that can assist in creating an awareness of the project and motivating audiences to support in raising funds”, saidGroup Public Affairs: Stakeholder Manager, Ms. Nomonde Gongxeka. This includes the Radio 2000 who is already flighting promos about the project and who produced two original songs and videos to promote the project.

To formalise the partnership, the SABC is planning to have the signing of the MOU between itself and the NMCH on the 30th of May 2013. A is also planned for later on in the year. The project will receive programming support from both on television and radio platforms. The hospital will be built with the support of donors from across the globe in honor of former president Mr. Nelson Mandela.
