The SABC's gift to the father of the nation; is two original songs titled "All About Love" and "Happy Birthday Madiba". The songs were composed by Pops Mohammed, Lebohang Sebele, JB Arthur and Tebogo Rameetse. The proceeds of the songs will go towards the Nelson Mandela Trust Fund to help build a children’s hospital.
Ms. Sibongile Mkhabela, the CEO of the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital Trust said that Dr. Nelson Mandela is only asking for one gift: To build a children's hospital. "The Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital is an opportunity for all of us to lift our heads and look a little bit further than ourselves and create the world our children would best grow up in", said Sibongile. She also added that the Children Hospital is designed in a manner that a child interprets the world. She thanked the SABC for knocking on her door and extending its helping hand.
Mr. Hlaudi Motsoeneng Group Chief Operations Officer said "We are very glad to contribute to Nelson Mandela's vision. This should not only be done during the month of July, as a Public Broadcaster we need to do more and replicate on what Mandela stands for".
"It is a proud moment for us to stand in front of you and discuss this wonderful project that took us a record braking 3 weeks to put together. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the SABC Management for extending their involvement and expanding the project across all the 18 radio stations and 3 television networks. The support is overwhelming”, said Mr. Carlito Sheikh, Radio 2000 Station Manager.
The Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital project has been underway for 6years and the hospital will be ready to admit its first patient in 2014 on Mandela's birthday. It is through downloading the songs that the project will be a success.
The public can SMS the keyword "love" or "Madiba" to 31755 to download the songs at the price of R20 per download.
