  1. BACKGROUND

Choosing a career and deciding where to study to obtain a recognised qualification are two of the most important decisions that one may be faced with at some point in one’s life. It is therefore critical that one has the right information about the careers they are interested in.

Career Development Services was established to provide career information, advice and guidance to all South Africans (particularly those in poor and rural communities who have little or no access to information on careers) using a multi-channel approach.

The channels of communication that form part of the service include contact with citizens via telephone, sms, e-mail, radio, print material, exhibitions and a walk-in- Centre at the Department of Higher Education and Training.

  1. CAMPAIGN OPERATION

The Apply Now! Blitz Campaign will take place between 5am and 8am at identified taxi ranks and train stations. Participants will, at each point, distribute the CDS flyers, booklets, brochures and Take 5 Khetha Cards to the commuters at the chosen locations.

Blitz Campaign activities will include:

  • Distribution of career information material;
  • Direct contact with career advice experts; and
  • Brief career advice and guidance consultations.

Career advice experts will provide further information, advice and guidance on:

  • How to choose a career.
  • Registered public and private institutions.
  • Learning opportunities through the SETA’s.
  • Funding opportunities for your studies.
  • Public services training opportunities.
  • Opportunities through community services and self- services.
  • Study opportunities.
